| The following stuff is more true than the preceding stuff (kinda).
Ok. Your fasting blood sugar test came back "ESAJ mg/dl" which stands for "Extra Surgery Aunt Jemima." You said to your doctor, "Ok, I have T2 diabetes, what can I eat,?" and he said, "Uh …well, uh …no sugar …and, uh …no potatoes or bread …and, uh …well, uh …you know, … bad things and stuff like that." Everybody knows your doctor is your best source of information on what T2 diabetics can eat. After determining that your doctor has his thumb up …. uh, well anyway, you decide to search the web for further possibilities. You will, undoubtably, run across the ubiquitous "Food Pyramid." I have no idea what that crazy thing is… ignore it. Your best source of information on T1 and T2 diabetes, not only what to eat, is alt.support.diabetes... or... alt.food.diabetic. Also, try misc.health.diabetes. just jump in and ask your questions. The people there are real diabetics with real experience. Some are full of crap - you'll have to figure out which ones, but most are a wealth of real life information that the average newbie diabetic will never find anywhere else (if you see me there, don't ask me anything - I don't know jack sh...). |
| FIND EXTRA TREATS - The following items (10 net carbohydrates or under per serving) can be found in average neighborhood supermarkets - SEE NET CARBS |
![]() |
| READ THIS - More maybes and maybe nots
Products under " Extra Treats" (below) are listed because of their low net carb content only. Read the nutritional label carefully as they may contain other ingredients you may not want or tolorate well - like fats, calories, sodium, dirty socks, rat poison, etc. "Real foods" that don't raise your blood gook too much are still your best bet. Don't just eat low-carb crap. Bad! Ask the folks on alt.support.diabetes how to use your BG meter to find real foods you can eat (BG stands for "Betty Grable," inventor of the Blood Glucose Meter) |

| So, you've just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Obviously, your first question is, "Holy Crap, is this gonna kill me?" The answer is, well, maybe ....or maybe not ….probably not …but then again …a part of the answer depends on what you eat. If you eat the wrong things it can get worse ….or maybe not. Unfortunately, and something you're gonna find very frustrating, is the answer to most questions about T2 diabetes is, “maybe – maybe not - depends on the individual, etc”… like trying to get a straight answer from a polititian ...that’s type 2 diabetes for you. If you're careful, and only eat the right things, you'll probably starve to death anyway, so don't worry about it. My mother had T2 diabetes real bad. She died - and she was only 89. I have T2 diabetes, and I get really hungry for foods I'm not supposed to eat. I've found that booze takes the edge off a little. Try supplementing your diet with 5 or 6 martinis before meals ...works for me. Never smoke pot …the munchies are suicide. Trying to figure out what you can eat is a bitch. One way is to pretend you're a rabbit, and go with your instincts. If you're not sure what a rabbit eats, follow one around for a few days, and when they start to eat something, take it away from them and eat it. Oh! …except carrots. You can't eat carrots ….well, maybe you can - maybe not. Try a few bites to see if you swell up and die. But, just to be on the safe side, it's best to stay with bushes and grass …maybe some twigs. Actually, there are a few other things you can eat. A quick web search will turn up tons of T2 diabetic-friendly recipes for delicious meals requiring only a total of 4 or 5 hours preparation time by somebody who doesn't have anything else to do but cook all day (if you like things like Curried Flax Patties). So, when you ask, "I have T2 diabetes, what can I eat?" now you know. You can eat like a king…A diabetic king None of this stuff is true _________________________________________________ |
